Sadly, stories of frauds posing as raqis keep appearing in Morocco. Here are the signs of an honest raqi:
- Recites the Quran clearly and audibly.
- Does not touch women and requires a mahram or companion.
- Never insists on being alone with you or isolates you from family.
- Never hits or harms the patient.
- Does not ask for your mother's name, personal items or sacrifices.
- Does not claim knowledge of the unseen or accuse relatives.
- Advises you to continue medical treatment.
- Is clear about appointments and cost.
