Types of Spiritual Healing in Islam

From ruqya to adhkar, charity and hijama: a simple guide to lawful forms of spiritual healing.

Spiritual healing in Islam is built on strengthening one's connection with Allah. It complements medical treatment and does not replace it. Its main forms are:

1. Ruqya

Reciting the Quran and supplications over the sick person, by oneself or by someone else.

2. Adhkar and daily protection

Morning and evening remembrance, Ayat al-Kursi and the protective surahs before sleep.

3. Supplication and charity

The Prophet ﷺ advised treating the sick with charity, and dua is the believer's weapon.

4. Prophetic medicine

Honey, black seed, Zamzam water and hijama.

5. Prayer and Quran recitation

Among the greatest sources of tranquillity and healing.
